I found this person's photos. All of them with fantastic outfits. Her facial expressions and features are just perfect for drawing. Sketched this on piece of copy paper and just kept going with colored pencil.

The colored pencils I used were a little hard. I'd rather use a softer pencil , like Prismacolor, for the smoother paper that the Moleskine sketchbook has.

I love mermaids. I thought my moleskine sketchbook needed one in it.

Here I used acrylic paint over my pencil drawing. I didn't want the colors to be very vibrant and cartoony, so I tried to keep the colors muted. I think it worked.

I saw this photo online and just started doing some real energetic-deliberate strokes. I really didn't expect it to turn into anything at all. I tinted the background in photoshop. I wish I could remember where I found the reference photo.

I just bought a second hand Wacom tablet and feel like I need to practice using it. Much easier than paint for me.

I'm basically just tracing over a pencil sketch. The trick is to know how to handle the fills outlines and layers. Just think I used to do all my outlines with a mouse.

It's been a while since drew or I posted anything.

Drawing in my Moleskine sketchbook. I only used a single page this time.

I was trying to get a soft fairy tale feel to the drawing...not sure I succeeded, but I like the final sketch.

It's always nice to break the seal, after not drawing for a while, and get some real sketching in.

I came across a pic of Luke Skywalker in an old "History of the Movies" book I have. Thought it would be a good addition to my moleskine sketchbook. I added the Tan-Tan in the background, however, it's two different styles. I didn't feel like erasing and starting over.

Practicing sketching with watercolor paint. At the time, all I had in front of me was bleed-proof smooth paper. It really didn't work well with the paint, but that's what this experiment was all about. I wanted to test materials with mediums.

It's only about 5 x 8". Not too horrible for a throw away.

It wasn't as quick as some, but I really didn't go crazy with the details. I drew it fast, but filling in the dark areas still took some time. It probably took about an hour.

I used a 6b pencil. I like using dark soft pencils on smooth paper. This helps from scrubbing too hard and getting shiny areas that are hard to photograph. I use 2b pencils on rough paper and board, but I always hit the dark areas with a darker pencil at the end. .

I was hired to do a portrait a few months back by a person who contacted me online. The image I worked from was poor, but I was able to see enough to get this. I sent him a low resolution scan of the drawing for his approval...no response. I'v tried to contact him several times with no response. I stuffed it away for months and just came across it yesterday. It's not bad at all. In fact, It looks just like them...and I gave him such a low price. He's not the only one. Never again. Prices are way up now.

Sorry I haven't been around much. I've been running like crazy with work, running a gallery for our local art league and trying to frame a bunch of art for a Salon/Gallery I was asked to show in.
The place is called Shakti. The Gallery director asked me if I was interested in showing some of my work. Showing anything locally is a real first for me. I thought it was about time that I came out of my local artist closet. After I said yes, he told me I needed 25 pieces ready to hang by mid September. I had the pieces, but not framed. I have to say, the cost of framing could put a person in the poor house. However, it looks much better than having them siting in a pile at home, with a chance of them getting damaged.

They're finally up and I snapped some photos to share. Not everything is for sale, but some of it is.

Sketch I did for Mici for her birthday.

I looked at her photo and saw the shapes... I had to get them down on the first piece of paper I could find.

I used a piece of blue cover stock. The kind you would use for reports and could run through a copier. The surface was a little too smooth for me and the pencil smeared easily, but I managed to get this off.

I think I got her.

This started out as a little sketch on a piece of scrap paper. When it was half done, I got bored with it and put it away for months. I'm not really into realistic drawing that much. I was cleaning out some some old papers and sketches and I came by this. It only had about 15 minutes of work to get it to this point, but it was like pulling out my own teeth. I'm happy I finally finished it.

This is a Christmas present to my cousin from his wife.
I worked from a very dark and and poor photo. A lot of the features were hidden in the grass, so I had to be a creative with how to handle the grass.
